PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Cougars will look a little different this season with the loss off all-time leading scorer Riley Heidt but with over 80 prospects attending training camp there is a lot of talent looking to make their mark. Head Coach Mark Lamb says training camp is the start to developing something special and continuing to build off of recent success.

” Training camp is very important. It’s, it’s a chance for everybody to get together. It’s an opportunity to see how these guys summer went and, how much work they put into their into their conditioning. And, And that’s really nice, too. You have to find the chemistry within your organization. So that’s what training camp is for. ” said Lamb.

For returning forward Lee Shurgot this is a chance to see if all the hard work over the summer pays off and start to develop some chemistry with what he views as a deep roster ready to contend.

“There is a lot of talent in the team and we are a very deep team. You have to work hard to make a roster spot, and it’s, really exciting to see all the young talent coming to the through the squad and just how deep we really are this year. It’s really exciting. ” said Shurgot.

Following a tough game seven loss to Portland last year Coach Lamb remains optimistic this team is ready to continue building a winning culture and thinks the pieces are there.

“It was a tough loss for us last year andwe had a very good team. We think on paper we’re going to have a very good team but it’s yet to be seen. We have to go through training camp and go through all the things to build chemistry. You have to put people in the right spots and that’s what this season’s about. So far what I’ve seen is we have a lot of depth in all positions so the training camp is going to be very hard.” said Lamb.

The Cougars will face their first pre-season challenge with a pair of pre-season games September 5th and September 7th against the Edmonton Oil Kings in Hinton.
