Area restriction in effect for the Beef Trail Creek wildfire near Anahim Lake

Aug 31, 2025 | 10:21 AM

WILLIAMS LAKE — An area restriction is in effect as BC Wildfire Service crews continue to respond to the 500-hectare Beef Trail Creek wildfire in the Cariboo Fire Centre.

The fire is located north of Ulkatcho First Nation and Anahim Lake and east of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park. It was sparked by lightning last week and the most active fire behaviour Saturday (Aug. 30) was on the northwest corner, unlike previous days when activity was concentrated on the southeast flank.

“Or primary operational focus continues to be to utilize indirect attack methods and establish a control and contingency line to the south, utilizing old access roads,” the BC Wildfire Service said.

“There are no imminent threats to infrastructure, or Highway 20.”

The area restriction will remain in effect until noon on Sept. 30, unless it is rescinded earlier. It may also be extended further, if needed. The order applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries described below:

  • North Boundary: From the intersection of Beef Trail Road and Dean River Road, the boundary follows the west shoreline of the Dean River south to Abuntlet Lake. 52 48.118 – 125 31.824
  • East Boundary: The intersection of the Dean River and the north end of Abuntlet Lake 52 34.540 – 125 25.436
  • South Boundary: The intersection of Beef Trail Road and Highway 20. 52 31.897 – 125 29.054
  • West Boundary: From the Provincial Park boundary and Hwy 20 then continuing along the park boundary until rejoining the intersection of Beef Trail Road and Dean River Road. 52.33.084 -125 43.664

“Access to the Dean River for travel, recreation, or other authorized users remains open,” the Wildfire Service said.

Under the order, nobody can enter the restricted area unless the person is:

  • Travelling to or from his or her principal, secondary or recreational residence, that is not under an evacuation order;
  • Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act;
  • Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act;
  • Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.
  • Travelling to or from First Nations reserve land;
  • Range development and/or Range practices as defined in the Forest and Range Practices Act;

Failure to comply with area restrictions may result in a violation ticket of $1.150.
