QUESNEL — The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) has issued an evacuation order to 15 properties due to the 948 hectare Tsetzi Lake wildfire.

People in the evacuation area – which spans 6,190 hectares – are being told to head north to Highway 16 and then onwards to Prince George. A reception centre has been set up at 4249 18th Ave. in Prince George, and evacuees can call 1-778-675-3735.

“Due to immediate danger to life safety due to fire, members of the RCMP or other groups will be expediting this action,” the evacuation order said. “You must leave immediately.”

“Persons who disregard this Evacuation Order and remain in the Evacuation Order area do so at their own risk. Responders may be unable to assist anyone who remains in the Evacuation Order area.

An evacuation alert is also in effect for 24 properties in the Eliguk Lake area due to the Tsetzi Lake fire. People in the impacted area, which can be found on the interactive map here, are being told to prepare to evacuate, if an order is necessary.

“Residents will be given as much notice as possible prior to evacuation; however you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions,” the CRD statement said.

The BC Wildfire Service has ground and aerial resources working on the lightning-caused wildfire.

Special air quality statements have also been reissued for parts of northeastern B.C. – including the Chilcotin area – due to wildfire smoke, which is or is expected to affect impacted communities within the next 48 hours.
