Red hot Kodiaks face a huge challenge in the Okanagan Sun

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Kodiaks are riding high on a three game win streak that sees them sitting firmly in third place four points ahead of fourth place Langley. With the team looking to make it’s first ever postseason appearance it faces perhaps its largest uphill battle of the season Saturday night when they face the number two ranked team in the country the undefeated Okanagan Sun. Head coach Jamie Boreham sees a much different team then the one he began the season with.

“We played them in week three and we didn’t get the outcome we looked for but we hung around longer than we had previously. So it’s stepping stones and getting closer to being in there and seeing that. Hopefully our guys recognize when they’re down there that we had the tough travel and we were able to stick around and play with them. The wheels fell off in the fourth quarter a little bit, but, you know, they got the tough travel now and hopefully we can get a jump on them, take them to the wire here and see where it goes. Let’s see who’s who and can pull it out.” said Boreham.

The Kodiaks defense has been stepping up with comeback wins and narrow margins of victory but what Boreham wants to see this Saturday is all three aspects of the game come together and he says if the squad can do that they have a chance to extend this winning streak.

“Three phases of football is something we haven’t accomplished. Offensively we had some things that we liked, missed, executed. If we can execute better and get on the same page then good things will happen. Our special teams hasn’t been where we want it to be, this year. We need to take some steps and we’ve made some adjustments and some subs to see if some people can take the reins on those positions to help us be better. Defensively, hopefully we take what we did in the fourth quarter last game and carry it into this game. We’re old enough to understand and I think our guys are prepared for this weekend.” said Boreham.

The Kodiaks take on the Okanagan Sun Saturday at 6 P.M at Masich Place Stadium.
