UNBC women fall to UBC, men lose to Victoria in Canada West soccer action

PRINCE GEORGE — A setback for the UNBC teams in Friday (Sept. 5) night Canada West soccer action.

The women’s team put forth a solid effort but they fell 3-0 to the reigning national champions, the UBC Thunderbirds at Masich Place Stadium.

First-year goalkeeper Johanna Rathke set a new season-high with 17 saves as the TWolves drop to 0-5 on the season. The German rookie leads all Canada West goalkeepers with 59 saves in just five games.

All three UBC goals came in the second half as the Thunderbirds outside the Timberwolves 23-2 on the night.

The UNBC men’s team also fell 3-1 to the Victoria Vikes as they kicked off an Island weekend.

Yassin Guitouni struck three times for Victoria, including twice in the first-half, while Hagon Kim scored the lone goal for UNBC who are now 3-2 this season.

Logan Pierce finished the night with eight saves in the UNBC goal while Callum Weir made three saves for the Vikes.

Both teams will rematch with the men’s game set for 7:15 p.m. this evening, while the women are set to kick off at noon tomorrow (Sept. 7).
