Active police investigation on Victoria Street

PRINCE GEORGE — Update: Prince George RCMP is advising the public that the explosive device, located on September 11, 2025 by the Problem Oriented Policing team, was examined by the Explosives Disposal Unit and found to be non functional.

The parking lot was reopened to traffic just after 1:00 a.m. this (fri) morning. The person the device was located on was arrested and held in custody until he could attend a bail hearing.

This file remains under investigation.

Earlier (7:50 a.m. Sept.12): Prince George RCMP say the investigation has wrapped up successfully and after investigation the device was not explosive.

Earlier: (4:30 p.m. Sept.11):Prince George RCMP is urging residents to avoid the cordoned off area near the intersection of Victoria Street and Patricia Boulevard due to an active police investigation.

Earlier Thursday afternoon, the Problem Oriented Policing Team had effected an arrest on a suspect for an unrelated investigation and, while searching the suspect’s belongings incidental to the arrest, they located an explosive device in the person’s backpack.

For the safety of police officers and the public, investigators have cordoned off a perimeter at the location and will remain on scene until the Explosive Disposal Unit can attend to the device.

“We want the public to be aware that this event is unrelated to the bomb threats that were delivered to several facilities in Prince George yesterday (Wednesday) evening. We ask that they stay away from the area to give police officers room to work safely. Please choose alternate routes when traveling through the area,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
