Local youth is competing for a great cause
PRINCE GEORGE – Taylon Pierre is a energic friendly nine year old who loves sports with a drive to change the world. Taylon’s latest challenge is’nt one on the baseball diamond but an online competition. The Youth Athlete of the Year is a vote driven competition designed to raise money for non-profits including the V Foundation for cancer research. Taylon’s grandmother Treena Sinclair successfully battled a rare form of cancer 3 years ago and now Taylon wants to focus on helping others who are going through a similar experience.
“This contest came up on Facebook and it was about raising money for cancer research. In 2022 I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia and had to be flown to Vancouver. I was taken away from Taylon for just about a year and I couldn’t stay with him and it broke his heart. He said well they saved you mama so let’s raise money so they can save other people. That’s how we came to decide we were going to enter this contest.” said Sinclair.
Taylon remembers the long period without his grandmother but now with that experience in the rearview he is focused on doing whatever he can to help others going through what he and his family experienced. He is turning his experience and love for baseball into a chance to raise some funds for those who need it.
“I love baseball and I play a lot. I’m trying to save money because my grandma fought cancer and I have to save up money for other people that had cancer. I’m a star, so you should vote for me for athlete of the year. ” said Pierre.
