PRINCE GEORGE – Drumming resonated throughout the Prince George Courthouse courtyard Monday in support of a grieving family that lost their daughter, Isabelle Thomas, in a suspected home invasion over two years ago.

The front area of the courthouse echoed with the sounds of singing and drumming in support of two grandmothers inside, now the primary caregivers for the two children left behind after their mother was tragically killed in July 2023.

According to Maternal grandmother Leslie Thomas, seeing the people outside the courthouse helps with the struggle she lives with the loss of a daughter and now a mother and grandmother to a toddler.

“ That support system is tremendous, especially when you’re dealing with such a mess.”

Jen Jack arrived at the courthouse to perform, singing and drumming to let those passing by hear the power of a united voice.

“I want them to feel our strength. I want them to hear our drum beat, to feel our heart, and to know that we’re all standing together.”

The paternal grandmother said that the eight-year-old, who lost their mother, is determined to keep her memory alive by writing a book.

“ I think we’re going to be looking at a future advocate for girls like her who have been through the same kind of traumas.”

Both grandparents, with the support of their community, plan to remain present throughout the court proceedings, which are expected to wrap up in the coming weeks. They’re committed to being there for the young children they are raising.
