RCMP investigate online threats made against Nusdeh Yoh

PRINCE GEORGE — Update: Prince George RCMP say they received word of the threats involving a firearm Monday night at around 6:10 p.m.

The threats were made on an online forum and were not made directly at Nusdeh Yoh.

Investigators immediately worked to determine the source behind the threats and were able to locate a young individual in Prince George. Police officers spoke with the young person and their family and learned the threats were not in earnest but rather an imitation of what the young person had seen in other online environments.

“Our investigators are confident there is no threat to public or student safety. We encourage all parents to be reviewing their children’s internet browser histories, game content and messaging apps regularly, to make sure you know what they are getting into,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

This investigation has wrapped up.

Earlier: School District 57 was notified by Prince George RCMP about a threat made toward Nusdeh Yoh Elementary School.

In a statement Monday night, SD57 Superintendent Jameel Aziz says police have investigated the threat, and have determined there is no danger to the school, school community, students or staff.

School is in session Tuesday but Aziz says the district has resources in place for anyone who is feeling upset about what transpired.

Aziz told CKPG News that the threats in question were online in nature but isn’t elaborating any further.

Prince George RCMP hasn’t commented yet. We’ll update this story as soon as more information is available.
