PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Spruce Kings wrapped up their preseason with a 5-1 victory over Chilliwack this past weekend and appear to be riding that momentum into their season opener. The team is returning many players from last year and associate coach Brad Tobin says the veterans are using their experience to help the new additions progress quickly.

“I think there’s some good team chemistry. I think some of the lines are starting to gel as units And I think our defense is really solid as well. With the guys coming back from last year’s playoff loss, I think they’re the guys that are obviously the big leaders in the room helping a lot of these guys along. It’s a good group of guys in that room and I think it’s just going to grow with obviously all the long bus trips and travel this team has in this league.” said Tobin.

Starting the season on the road is never easy but having beaten Chilliwack this past weekend on the road gave the Kings a preview of whats to come in the opener. Though the travel time is long forward Ryan Wachtel expects the team to be ready to perform when it hits the ice friday night.

“Playing on the road is always tough but I feel like we’re used to the travel especially being so far north so being on the road is something we get used to. Obviously, since it’s the first one, we have some new guys and that will be a little different for them but I expect us to come out hard and we’ll be ready for the game on on Friday. ” said Wachtel.

With expectations high this season the pressure will be on the Kings to start hot and take advantage of seven of their first nine games being at home in Kopar Memorial Arena.

“I think from obviously upper management down to the to the players we know this is a team that can make some noise here. Obviously, we want to get off to a good start with a lot of games at home to start the season so I think in the first month if we’re rolling I think everybody’s going to be dialed in and ready to go.” added Tobin.

The Prince George Spruce Kings kick of their season in Chilliwack this friday with a 7pm start time .
