B-C’s police watchdog organization says there’s no evidence of wrongdoing in a 2024 case where a woman suffered a broken ankle while being arrested by Quesnel R-C-M-P.
The Independent Investigations Office says the January 6th, 2024 case saw officers respond to a crisis-line request of checking on a woman who was drinking and intending on self-harm.
The report says police arrested the woman under the Mental Health Act, and a minor struggle during the arrest led to her falling on the ground and breaking her ankle.
The I-I-O says the evidence did not establish that police used excessive force in the arrest and isn’t consistent with allegations that the officer may have ignored the woman’s complaints about her injury.
