Levels for Upper Fraser River and nearby tributaries expected to rise throughout the weekend

PRINCE GEORGE — A high streamflow advisory is in place for the Upper Fraser River.

In a post Friday (Sept. 26), the BC River Forecast Centre issued the high streamflow advisory that also includes the McGregor River, Robson Valley and surrounding areas. The advisory is also in effect for the Cariboo region, including the headwaters of the Quesnel River and surrounding areas, and tributary rivers around Valemount.

The forecast centre notes that no major flooding is expected but rivers in the areas may experience a rapid increase in flows, particularly in smaller watersheds and streams.

Rivers are expected to begin rising Saturday (Sept. 27) night and peak on Sunday. The forecast centre notes heavy rainfall could exacerbate runoff from areas that experienced wildfires over the summer.
