Homes for a cause: Copper Project returns to Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE – A new home is being built in the Hart by Copper Falls Custom Homes, but unlike most new projects, this one is for a special cause. In partnership with the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, the Copper project returns to build its sixth home to support healthcare in the north.

“The power of community never ceases to amaze me, and the Copper Project is a shining example of that. They come back year after year, and they look at ways that they can support our local patients. They’re passionate about the project, and I think that really is the power of community,” said Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation’s CEO Aimee Cassie.

“Everybody jumped on board, and we quickly realized that this would be a great opportunity to support the community and give back. So every year we go to everybody again, and everybody’s eager to get back on board,” said Jeff Stewart, Copper Falls Custom Homes’s Director and Owner.

Located at 7233 Hillu Rd. in the Legacy Park subdivision of the Hart, this home is expected to be completed in February of 2026, with an estimated sale price in the $725,000 range. Since the project began seven years ago, it has supported improving cardiac care.

“For years they’ve supported cardiac care, which is the biggest gap in care that we see in northern B.C. They’ve also gone above and beyond to support ICU through Covid, that was huge. They always look at ways that they can improve patients outcome at UHNBC, so sometimes they get very specific with the equipment, and we love that because they’re passionate about the project. It’s just something we’re very grateful for,” Cassie said.

“It’s unique to us that we can bring a big group like this together. It is a lot of work, but we can generate a lot of money, and we have, so it’s exciting to keep it going every year and hopefully we can keep on going and push that million dollar mark,” Stewart added.

A project this large takes more than 50 local contractors, which of course is a lot of work and manpower, but Stewart says it’s all worth it to know that the money raised stays in the community and goes to an important cause.

“Everybody jumps in, works together, and makes it a fun project. And being able to give back to the community gives everybody the energy they need to to get through it,” Stewart said.

The previous year’s Copper Project home was also located on Hillu Rd., a fact Cassie is happy about because she says Legacy Park and the neighbourhood has beautiful construction and is a great space.
