SPOKANE, WA — The Prince George Cougars completed a weekend sweep of the Spokane Chiefs as they picked up a 4-3 win on the road Saturday (Oct. 4) night.

Captain Bauer Dumanski scored the game-winning goal in the final minutes to ensure that the Cougars remain the only unbeaten team in the WHL. He also added an assist for his third multi-point game of the season.

The Cougars opened the scoring at 14:27 of the first period when Jett Lajoie notched his fourth goal of the season on the power play. Prince George held on to that led though one period, thanks in part to several key saves from goaltender Josh Ravensbergen.

The Chiefs managed to take the lead after a pair of quick goals from Smyth Rebman and Mathis Preston at 7:06 and 8:40 of the second period, before Friday’s hero Kooper Gizowski restored parity with the Cougars first shot of the middle frame.

Coco Armstrong and Aiden Foster traded goals in the third period to make it a 3-3 affair before Dumanski scored the game winner at 17:17. He wired a shot from the point past Spokane’s Linus Viellard to give Prince George their first lead since the opening period.

Ravensbergen then stood on his head in the dying seconds with four saves – one of which came with his helmet with one second remaining – to help the Cougars improve to 4-0. The San Jose Sharks prospect made 24 saves on 27 shots to pick up the win.

Viellard turned aside 16 of 20 shots in a losing effort for Spokane.

The Cats lead the BC Division and are currently second in the Western Conference. They’ll return home to the CN Centre to face the Memorial Cup host Kelowna Rockets this Wednesday (Oct. 8).

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
