Rockets score two late goals to beat Cougars

PRINCE GEORGE — The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Prince George Cougars 5-4 Wednesday night at the CN Centre in Prince George.

Kelowna scored twice in the final 42 seconds of the game to secure the victory and the Cougars head coach expressed disappointment afterwards.

“We looked like a real immature team,” said GM & Head Coach Mark Lamb in the Post-Game show. “We weren’t doing the right things, tried to get fancy, and that’s what happens.”

The Cougars were leading 4-3 in the final minute with the Rockets net empty but after the Cats failed to score into the empty net the Rockets capitalized at the 19:18 mark when Kayden Longley scored his third goal of the season.

Then, in the dying seconds, a clean faceoff win in the Cougars’ zone came right to Tomas Poletin, who fired home the game-winner to complete the comeback and hand the Rockets a 5-4 victory.

Kooper Gizowski, Jett Lajoie, Aiden Foster, and Riley Ashe had the goals for Prince George with Josh Ravensbergen taking the loss in net. The Cougars outshot Kelowna, 35-32 and the announced attendance was 3,196.

The loss ends the Cougars’ perfect 4-0 start to the season. Prince George will look to rebound this weekend when they host the Tri-City Americans for Community Heroes Weekend, with games Saturday at 6:00 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM at the CN Centre.
