PRINCE GEORGE — The Conservation Officer Service (COS) is warning recreationists to avoid hiking trails in the McGregor Mountains area east of Prince George following a grizzly bear attack Sunday afternoon (Oct.12).

The COS says two hikers were injured by the grizzly northeast of Prince George at approximately 3 p.m. No other information regarding the hikers’ condition, or the incident itself, is available at this time.

In light of what’s happened, the COS says trails in the area are now closed and will remain closed until further notice for safety reasons adding all cabin rentals in the area will be cancelled by the rental provider until the investigation into the incident has concluded.

Tips for those enjoying the outdoors include carrying a can of bear spray, making noise, and to watch for fresh bear signs including droppings, diggings, or torn-up logs.
