Kodiaks fall to Rebels in first-ever BCFC playoff game

LANGFORD, B.C. — The best ever season in Prince George Kodiaks history has come to an end.

The Kodiaks were beaten 45-28 by the Westshore Rebels in a BC Football Conference playoff game at Starlight Stadium Saturday (Oct. 11) afternoon. It was the Kodiaks’ first ever playoff game in their short four season history.

Tied 14-14 at half-time, the Rebels scored 31 points in the second half to earn the victory. The Rebels were lead by running back Carter Williams, who had 146 yards on 22 carries, and three rushing touchdowns.

Rebels all-star quarterback Gavin Session went 18 for 26 with 277 yards and three passing touchdowns, two to Jeremiah Beckwith and one to Tyrell Hofland.

Kodiaks quarter-back Sawyer Theissen was 24 for 39 with 259 yards and two rushing touchdowns in the first half. He also threw two touchdown passes to Kayle Cowley and Matthew Sturgess in the fourth quarter, and finished with one interception.

Ahead of this weekend’s games, Kodiaks’ middle linebacker Caiden Crow was named to the BCFC all-star team. He had 45 tackles, 15 assisted tackles, one interception, two knockdowns and recovered two fumbles in the regular season.

The Rebels will face the Okanagan Sun in Kelowna next Saturday (Oct. 18) in the Cullen Cup championship game. The Sun beat the Vancouver Island Raiders 43-12 in the other semifinal on Saturday.
