Political scientist warns internal feuds could damage B.C. Conservatives’ credibility
PRINCE GEORGE – British Columbia’s political landscape is shifting again, this time MLA Amelia Boultbee quitting the B.C. Conservative caucus is calling on leader John Rustad to resign.
In March 2023, John Rustad became the leader of the BC Conservative Party. Since then, the party has faced challenges, losing four members due to internal disagreements. Recently, another member’s departure raised concerns about Rustad’s leadership and the party’s future.
“ They have to manage fiscal conservatives with social conservatives. They have to keep together. BC liberal slash BC United members with all the other people that were from the parties of the right. And then they also have to hold together. Federal Liberal Party of Canada supporters with conservatives. And then they have to hold this all together. Leader has to be somewhat heavy-handed or dictatorial, and then gets criticized is when that’s actually necessary.”
