PRINCE GEORGE — A local non-profit has launched what it says is the first-ever accessible sight seeing tour service in the Prince George area.

The Carefree Society says the initiative aims to bring “unforgettable” local experiences to everyone regardless of their age, mobility or ability. They’re promising scenic, educational, and culturally rich tours of the Prince George area.

“This is more than just a tour. It’s a movement toward community belonging and dignity,” said Christos Vardacostas, the Executive Director of Carefree Society. “We believe everyone deserves to experience the beauty, history, and joy of our beautiful city and region — without limits.”

The new tours will launch next month with two to three pre-scheduled trips a week. Organizers say they will cater to people like seniors, people with disabilities and families with young children who are often excluded from traditional tourism experiences.

“Tours are something that have been greatly needed in Prince George, so it’s exciting to see Carefree Society taking the lead,” added Carmen Herman, the Interim CEO of Tourism Prince George. “By making these tours accessible and community-based, they’re ensuring that everyone can explore our community together.”

According to the Carefree Society, tour features will Include:

  • Wheelchair-accessible vehicles and boarding
  • Friendly direct support and facilitation of rider requirements
  • Allows rider accompaniment
  • Subsidized or free seats for low-income riders
  • Destinations people want to get to

Tours can be booked online here, by calling 250-562-1397 or by email here.

People can also donate to help keep costs down for people in need or volunteer as a tour assistant, a storyteller, or an access support helper

A launch event and demo ride is scheduled to be held on Wednesday next week (Nov. 5) at 10:30 a.m. It’ll be held at 2832 Queensway Street and it will be open to community members and prospective volunteers.
