Citizen recognition program framework passes
PRINCE GEORGE — City council passed a framework for a citizen recognition program Monday night.
A select committee on citizen recognition has been in place since March 2025 and chair of the committee, Councillor Susan Scott laid out a framework for the program.
The program will award a “Prince George Medal of Excellence and Good Citizenship” to three individuals annually for “exceptional contributions to the Prince George community in areas such as leadership, innovation, impact, courage and generosity.” Scott notes in the report to council that the Prince George Community Foundation will manage the program “including nomination intake, adjudication and coordination with the proposed recipients approved by Council.” Nominations are expected to begin in the new year, with the awards to be given out mid-spring at a special meeting of Council.
As for details on what the award will look like, the report says that “each recipient will be awarded with a custom-designed medal with ribbon in Prince George flag colours, a matching lapel pin, and legacy garden component.”
