PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George RCMP is kicking off a new initiative to encourage residents to feel more confident and empowered when reporting crime to their local police.

The RCMP are concerned that a contributing factor is that many incidents are not being reported to police.

The RCMP has noticed a growing trend in which people are posting videos and photos of crimes on local social media sites rather than reporting them directly to the police. This practice hampers their ability to investigate, identify suspects, and prevent further criminal activity. To address this issue, police are launching a campaign to remind the community that reporting incidents directly to law enforcement is the most effective way to ensure everyone’s safety.

The campaign is entitled “See Something, Say Something” and is as simple as that: if you see a crime occurring, either in person or via your video surveillance, police need you to report it.

Throughout November, the PGRCMP, along with local partners, will share information with residents and businesses on the most effective ways to report crime to the police. They’ll also discuss how community members and law enforcement can collaborate to address various types of crime.
