PRINCE GEORGE – Sidewalks may appear straightforward, but they play a crucial role in keeping a city moving. Paving crews have been actively upgrading and constructing sidewalks throughout the city through the city’s $1.57 million 2025 sidewalk rehabilitation program.

As winter approaches, the city’s sidewalk rehabilitation program is nearing completion. The final section of sidewalks along Fifth Avenue is just days away from being completed.

“This year, we received $1.57 million for sidewalk rehabilitation. We are able to remove existing infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life and replace it with both concrete and asphalt. Concrete is our hard surface of choice for the pedestrian network.”

The city continually makes sure walkways are safe for everyone, easy to use for people of all abilities, and built to last.

“ We’ll use three different criteria when looking at sidewalk rehabilitation. One of those is a third-party sidewalk condition assessment. And that will provide us a numerical value of that asset.”

The 2025 capital sidewalk project included 16 sections throughout the city.

“ We’ve been able to do approximately 3000m of rehabilitated asphalt sidewalk and 2000m of rehabilitated concrete sidewalk.”

Plans for an additional paving project are already underway for 2026, pending the council’s approval of the paving budget.
