RCMP launches zero-tolerance strategy for downtown fire-related crimes
PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George RCMP is taking a zero-tolerance approach to fire-related incidents in the downtown core. It’s part of a new plan that includes the creation of a dedicated team assigned to address street disorder in the downtown core. It comes on the heels of a big meeting in Prince George last week that included members of the RCMP, the city and the provincial government.
Last week, City officials and Council members met with provincial law enforcement to discuss public safety and staffing challenges. Prince George RCMP Superintendent Darin Rappel announced new interim procedures to enhance law enforcement and community engagement in downtown.
“ It’s not a permanent measure, based on my discussion with the superintendent. And then we’ll monitor it based on the stats.”
