EVERETT, WA — The Prince George Cougars erased a two-goal deficit in the second period to beat the Everett Silvertips 5-4 in overtime

Lee Shurgot scored the overtime winner in Friday’s (Nov. 7) contest at the Angel of the Winds Arena, as the Cougars picked up their third win on their six-game road trip.

Kooper Gizowski and Terik Parascak combined for six points while Joshua Ravensbergen turned aside 35 shots to keep the 11-6 Cougars on top of the BC Division standings with 22 points from 17 games.

Gizowski, the first star on the night, opened the scoring at 3:44 of the period, but the Silvertips scored the game’s next three goals. Matias Vanhanaen and Nolan Caffey made it 2-1 after one period while Clarke Schaefer’s goal had Everett cruising at 3-1.

While Parascak and Patrick Sopiarz restored parity in the second, Everett went into the final intermission up 4-3, as Zackary Shantz capitalized on a loose puck.

Parascak then scored the only goal of the third period to force overtime, thanks in part to a pair of point-blank glove saves from Ravensbergen, who kept the Cougars alive.

Shurgot then called game after he connected on a pass from Dmitri Yakutsenak and found a way past Raiden LeGall 1:20 into the extra period. LeGall finished with 31 saves on 36 shots in a losing effort.

The Cougars will conclude their six-game road swing in Wenatchee this evening. Puck drop against the 4-8-1-1 Wild, who sit in the Western Conference basement, is at 6:00 p.m.
