PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George RCMP’S new campaign See Something Say Something encourages residents to report crimes to police. Reporting a Crime or where to report it can often be confusing and this week the RCMP are explaining the best way to go about it.

“911 is for a an emergency that’s occurring right now when you need first responders to whatever situation is going on, possibly a life or death situation or something that that needs a response immediately. Even if it’s not life or death if you see a crime in progress, that would constitute a 911 call. ” said Corporal Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP.

There are multiple ways to report a crime that doesn’t constitute an emergency. The first is the RCMP’s non-emergency line for a crime that isn’t an emergency, is not in progress and doesnt require an immediate response. The second is the online crime reporting tool which provides the public with an alternative way to report less serious crimes in Prince George and the surrounding areas. The last method is to contact Northern B.C Crimestoppers which allows individuals to submit anonymous tips about crimes with rewards available for information leading to arrests.

“Northern B.C. Crime Stoppers fully endorses the See something, Say something campaign. It is an anonymous way to report information to police and the program has been very successful over 40 years. Over the 40 years the program has been in the Prince George area, $40 million has been recovered in cash, drugs and property.” said Prince George City Councillor Ron Polillo.

As of the end of October almost 800 tips have anonymously been provided to Northern BC Crimestoppers which has led to over 1100 follow-up investigations by police.
