Tentative plans to rebuild Nukko Lake Community Hall

PRINCE GEORGE —Still no word on what caused the fire that destroyed the Nukko Lake Community Hall last week.

The fire occurred last Wednesday night and burned the roughly 75-year-old structure to the ground along with decades of memories for the hundreds of families in the area.

“It’s burnt to the ground, so the reality is the investigator, from what I’ve been told, doesn’t have much faith that they’ll find a true cause,” says Electoral A Director Victor Mobley, adding the blaze has left a hole in the community.

“It’s fairly large. I was at a meeting Sunday (Nov.9) with the community members who are active at the hall and those members are fairly upset. They spent a lot of their time and their years there and a lot of memories too.”

He estimates there are roughly 150-200 families living in close proximity to the hall – noting it was built in the late 1940s.

Though the fire was devastating, the structure was covered by insurance and there are tentative plans to rebuild.

“I got some information from our Chief Administrative Officer at the Regional District (RD) and we know the hall is insured. It’s a RD building which is one of the advantages of having a community hall being owned by the RD, it’s under group insurance.

“The biggest thing is going to be looking at the environmental aspects of it with the proximity to the lake and what we’ll need to do for septic and plumbing.”

Mobley says based on what he knows, they likely won’t see a rebuild until the spring of 2026 at the earliest.
