Spruce Kings sweep weekend set after victory in Langley

LANGLEY, B.C. — Make it two wins in a row for the Prince George Spruce Kings as they knocked off the Langley Rivermen 6-2 on the road Saturday (Nov. 15) night.

The Spruce Kings scored three unanswered goals on two different occasions at the George Preston Recreation Centre as the played the second of a five game road trip.

Prince George led 3-0 after one period following a pair from Tai Ushio and one from Dominic Szczygiel.

The Rivermen pulled one back through Aaron Reierson in the second, but Dracen Campbell restored the Spruce Kings three goal lead later that period.

In the third, a pair from Carter Hesselgrave (on the power play) and River Arnason (his first as a Spruce King) had Prince George up by five goals. Christian Chouha then scored a late consolation for the Rivermen, who dropped to 9-10 this season.

The Kings are now 9-8 this season and sit fifth in the Coastal Conference with 18 points. The Rivermen are in sixth place with 18 points as well but they’ve played two more games.

Colin Reay earned the win Saturday night with a 22 save outing for Prince George. Dylan Johnson stopped 26 of 32 shots for Langley in a losing effort.

The Spurce Kings are Island bound next to play the third-place Nanaimo Clippers on Wednesday (Nov. 19) followed by a pair against the conference-leading Cowichan Valley Capitals next weekend.
