KELOWNA — Heartbreak for the UNBC Timberwolves as they dropped a gut-wrenching 82-79 result to the UBC Okanagan Heat in Saturday (Nov. 15) night Canada West men’s basketball action.

The TWolves gave up three late free throws after they fouled Mike Adarkwah-Nti as he attempted a three-point shot. He hit all of them with eight seconds to go, but UNBC was unable to connect on a pair of three-point attempts as time ticked on.

UNBC led by 15 points after three quarters, but the Heat went outscored them 28-10 in the final period to secure the win and the 3-5 record.

Evgeny Baukin poured in 25 points for UNBC, which dropped to 2-5, while Isaiah Bias chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals in one of his best games in Green and Gold.

In women’s action, UNBC dropped a 61-40 decision to the Heat to remain winless at 0-7.

While the UNBC women kept things close for most of the night in Kelowna, like the men’s game, the 5-3 UBCO Heat used a fourth quarter run to pull away and win the game.

Claire Huang finished with a career-best 11 points for the TWolves, while Aurora Cabrera chipped in with eight points and 10 boards.

Next up for the UNBC teams is a pair of games in Abbotsford against the Fraser Valley Cascades on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 and 22.
