100 Hampers for 100 Families campaign is looking to help more people
PRINCE GEORGE – The holiday season, a time for joy and connection, can also bring immense stress and hardship for families facing financial struggles. When the holiday break starts many families lack the means to buy sufficient food let alone gifts. The One Hundred Hampers for One Hundred Families initiative led by Ron Brent Elementary School raises funds to distribute food hampers to support families in need in a time of need.
“We try and support the families so that over the two week break in winter when schools out of session We attempt to support the families so that they have food over that break, as we do feed kids breakfast and lunch at Ron Brent every day. That two week break is impactful for families so that was our intention in those hampers to have as many items as possible to counteract that two week break.” said the Principal of Ron Brent Elementary School Kelsey McWhinnie.
The program is now in it’s sixth year and last years success at Ron Brent Elementary has led to an additional 4 schools joining the campaign. This year there will be 20 hampers delivered to each school with the hope that additional community support could increase those numbers. Last years drive was extremely success as the community of Prince George donated in record amounts which led to the expansion being possible for this Christmas season.
