BC Green Party leader visits Prince George to start provincial tour

PRINCE GEORGE – Emily Lowan, the new leader of the BC Green Party, is in Prince George to begin a provincial tour where she hopes to meet a wide variety of community members all across B.C. Her day in Prince George included visiting a forestry protest that took place in front of the Prince George Ministry of Forests building, meeting UNBC students, and other community outreach events.
“This is a new era for the party, and my campaign and this tour is focused on putting a spotlight on the corporate monopolies that are stealing so much from this province, and the workers and communities that are fighting back with alternatives and great solutions,” Lowan said.
At 25 years old, Lowan is first person in Canada to head a major political party who was born in the 2000s, as she won the party’s leadership race in September. With a background in organizing campaigns, events, and advocacy, Lowan says she hopes to build the BC Greens as a grassroots organization.
“I want the BC Greens to be a fighting force for working class people, for renters, for young people, for Indigenous communities, and everyone else who isn’t served by the status quo in this province. That’s my focus, building this party up at the grassroots level,” Lowan said.
