Red hot Cougars prepare for a tough weekend

PRINCE GEORGE – The ice at the CN Centre is set to heat up this weekend as the Prince George Cougars defend home turf for the final two games of their lengthy home-stand. Fresh off a three-game win streak, the Cougars are brimming with confidence and ready to take on a pair of formidable Eastern Conference opponents they have’nt seen before. With key players making an impact and a strong season record so far consistency will continue to be the focus as Prince George continues its push up the standings.

“I think the biggest thing for us is find stability in our game and try to make sure we’re really consistent in all areas of our game. I think we try not to be just situationally motivated, where we try to adjust our preparation for team. We’re really trying to become consistent in how our our video sessions work, how our game day planning works, and how the system is implemented shift after shift. So we know there a top team there and they’re a great leveling mark for us to see where we are to measure up against them.” sais Cougars Associate Coach Jim Playfair.

Saturdays game against the Edmonton Oil Kings may present the Cougars biggest Challenge of the season as the the Oil Kings bring the WHL’s top ranked attack in addition to the leagues top record and are looking to play spoiler on a very important night.

“They’re a good team and we’re going to try to stick to our system and play our way. We believe we can play against any team here in the league. We have a lot of confidence in our room and were just going to stick to what we do best.” said Cougars forward Terik Parascak.

The players understand this isn’t just a game of the best versus the best. It’s more than that as saturday night is the annual cougars fight cancer night.

“Us as players have a special opportunity to to play for something like that and just to kind of acknowledge it and bring awareness to it. It’s just a special night that means a lot to a lot of people. For us, it’s it’s an honor to be able to do it.” said Parascak.

Saturdays game will feature a Mega 50/50 jackpot with proceeds benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation. The Cougars will also wear specialty pink jerseys Saturday that will be available for auction.
