Spruce Kings allow three goals in 99 seconds in defeat to Conference-leading Capitals
DUNCAN, B.C. — Ozbej Rep scored twice, but the Prince George Spuce Kings gave up three goals in the final 99 seconds in a 5-2 deafeat to the Cowichan Valley Capitals in Friday (Nov. 21) night action in the BCHL.
The loss snapped the Spruce Kings three game winning streak, though it came at the hands of the top team in the Coastal Conference. The Capitals are 15-5-1, while the Spruce Kings are fifth at 10-9.
Ruder Dembo scored the only goal of the first period as the Capitals led 1-0 after 20 minutes. The Spruce Kings killed three penalties in that period, which also featured an unsuccessful penalty shot attempt by Cowichan’s Gavin Rocha on Colin Reay.
Rep and Trace Frieden traded second period goals as the Capitals went into the second intermission up 2-1. Rep then scored his second of the night on a pass from Jackson Froysland to knot the score up at 2-2 with about seven minutes left to play, before disaster struck.
