Cougars cap off perfect five-game home stand with win over Edmonton Oil Kings

PRINCE GEORGE — Corbin Vaughan scored the game winner as the Prince George Cougars extended their season high win streak to five games with a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings Saturday (Nov. 22) night.

The Cougars knocked off the Eastern Conference-leading Oil Kings on Cougars Fight Cancer Night to wrap up a perfect five game home stand at the CN Centre.

The Cougars and Oil Kings were tied at 2-2 after one period, as while Terik Parascak and Aiden Foster gave the Cougars a 1-0 and a 2-1 lead, the Oil Kings responded through Miroslav Holinka and Landon Hanson.

Vaughan broke a 2-2 tie in the second period as Joshua Ravensbergen shut the door with 28 saves to help the Cougars improve to 16-7, which has second in the Western Conference with 32 points from 23 games.

Vaughan was named game’s first star, while Ravensbergen was the second star on the night.

Parker Snell stopped 21 of 24 shots in a losing effort for Edmonton, who remain atop the Eastern Conference with an 18-6-1-1 record, good for 38 points from 26 games. The Oil Kings though have played five more games than second place Prince Albert (16-1-4-0).

Next up for Prince George is a five game road trip that begins in Wenatchee next Friday, Nov. 28. Their next home game is scheduled for Dec. 12 against the Kamloops Blazers.
