PRINCE GEORGE — Spencer Masters scored the game winner with 6:21 remaining to lift the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 6-4 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs in the BCHL.

Masters broke a 4-4 tie with the first goal of the final period before Carter Hesselgrave sealed the win with an empty netter at Kopar Memorial Arena Friday (Nov. 28) night.

The Chiefs opened the scoring after Sam Auld’s shot bounced up and over Spruce Kings starter Ryder Green just past the four minute mark. The Spruce Kings responded though Hesselgrave and Dominic Szczygiel to lead 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

With Colin Reay now in net for Prince George, the Chiefs scored twice in 1:03 to take a 3-2 lead.

The Chiefs responded once again as Michael Denney and Ben Vreugdenhil put the home team back on top at 4-3. But with 11 seconds left in the period, Connor Dick evened the score at 4-4 after his shot deflected in off the crossbar.

Reay finished with 18 saves on 21 shots in 40 minutes of action, while Green stopped seven of eight shots in his 20 minutes. Ben Laurette allowed five goals on 31 shots in a losing effort for Chilliwack.

The Spruce Kings improve to 11-9-1 in the standings, while the Chiefs drop to 9-10-1. The two teams will rematch at Kopar Memorial Area at 6:00 p.m. this evening.
