Cougars stumble in Kennewick as six-game win streak comes to an end

KENNEWICK, WA. — The Prince George Cougars saw their six-game win streak come to an end Saturday (Nov. 29), as they dropped a 4-2 decision to the Tri-City Americans.

The Americans struck twice in the final 90 seconds at the Toyota Center, to retake the lead for good as the Cougars fought back from a two-goal deficit.

Grady Martin and Gavin Garland (on the power play) had Tri-City up 2-0 just past the 15 minute part of the second period, before Dmitri Yakutsenak got the Cougars on the board with his 10th of the season, scored on the power play as well.

The Cougars evened the score at 2-2 midway through the third period after Lee Shurgot found the back of the net with his second shorthanded goal of the season.

Terik Parascak, the Cougars leading point scorer with 37, picked up primary assists on both of those goals.

The Americans had an answer though as Connor Dale broke the deadline at 18:31, before Savin Virk sealed the win with an empty netter at 19:39.

Alexander Levshyn turned aside 21 of the 24 shots he faced in the Cougars net. His counterpart, Ryan Grout, picked up the win with 30 saves on 32 shots.

The Cougars will turn their focus on Wednesday (Dec. 3) as they travel to Kelowna to face the 2026 Memorial Cup host Rockets at Prospera Place. It’s game three of the Cougars five game road trip that will also take then to Vancouver Island for pair against the Victoria Royals next weekend.

The Cougars return to the CN Centre on Friday, Dec. 12, for the first of two home games against the Kamloops Blazers.
