Miracle on Third

PRINCE GEORGE – Miracle on Third is an annual drive-thru donation event and fundraising marathon. The event aims to support a different local non-profit organization each year by gathering cash, goods, and raising awareness for their cause. The initiative brings the community together during the holiday season to help those in need, with all donations staying within the local community. This years beneficiary the Prince George Council of Seniors is a non-profit organization that provides a wide range of services, information, and advocacy for seniors in the Prince George area. They aim to create a community where seniors can live an informed, safe, healthy, and connected life.

“We are a hub for seniors to support them with many different programs, which includes Meals on Wheels, Better at Home, Volunteer coordinator, caregiver support and dementia support. Then we also have sub programs which are giving out the bus passes to the seniors who are in need and providing them with emergency food supplies and tax clinics.” said Malhar Kendurkar the Executive Director of the Prince George Council of Seniors.

Providing all these services does not come cheap as many of the services provided by the council rely on subsidies and the generosity of the Prince George community. The Meals on Wheels program is one of those services as it provides meals to over 170 seniors per week at a cost of 9.50$ per meal but relies on subsidies and donations to maintain those prices.

“We rely mostly on community donations because the more money we have the better the ability we have to be able to subsidize those things and make sure that our prices don’t go up.” said Meals on Wheels Co-Ordinator Andrew Agbenin.

With the cost of living increasing non stop it’s making it harder for our senior community members to keep up which makes fundraising events like this year’s Miracle on Third vital to the Council of Seniors to continue to provide the excellent care they are known for.

“In our fiscal year of 2024-25 we supported approximately 15,714 seniors through this office, which is the highest number we have ever had and that number is just going to keep growing. ” said Kendurkar.

Miracle on Third will take place this Friday December 5th from 7am until 6pm with the donation drop-off location right beside the CKPG studios on 3rd avenue. Cash donations, nonperishable food items and gift cards are the requested items.
