Update: RCMP confirm arson investigation underway in relation to apartment fire

PRINCE GEORGE —Update: Prince George RCMP confirms an arson investigation is underway in relation to the apartment fire on Queensway Thursday.

Cpl. Lorne Smith told CKPG News that a suspect is in custody though charges have not been approved yet.

He’s unaware of any injuries.

Earlier: Prince George Fire Rescue responded to an apartment fire at 1501 Queensway Thursday just after 12 p.m.

The fire was contained to a small number of units at the Connaught Residences Apartment Tower, however smoke and water damage is yet to be determined.

It is currently unknown how many residents of the building are impacted at this time. The fire prompted City staff to activate the emergency operations centre (EOC) and emergency support services (ESS) to support those who are displaced.

No word yet on the cause of the fire. Updates will be provided as they become available.
