Cougars roar back to shootout win over Victoria Royals
VICTORIA — The Prince George Cougars erased a two goal deficit as they beat the Victoria Royals 3-2 in a shootout on Vancouver Island Friday (Dec. 5) night.
Brock Souch and Patrick Sopiarz scored regulation goals for the Cougars while Terik Parascak and Jett Lajoie scored in the shootout at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena.
Victoria took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission as Reggie Newman and Ashton Brown beat Joshua Ravensbergen in the Cougars’ net. Victoria outshot Prince George 15-5 in the first period, and 33-31 on the night.
Souch cut the deficit to one in the second period, before Sopiarz tied things up at 2-2 with the only goal of the third. Sopiarz buried the puck into an open net after Jack Finnegan forced a turnover off Royals goaltender Ethan Eskit, who finished with 29 saves.
