CNC begins ‘workforce adjustment process’
PRINCE GEORGE — It’s just two weeks from Christmas, and the College of New Caledonia has now begun what its calling its “workforce adjustment process,” as required under its collective agreements.
That adjustment process is expected to lead to layoffs though the exact number of job losses is unknown at this time.
The College says the process includes several steps and consultations and final outcomes won’t be known until they are complete. A statement on behalf of President Cindy Heitman says these are “incredibly difficult decisions” brought on by an $8 million dollar revenue shortfall, caused by a decline in international student enrolment. That lead to the cancellation of 8 programs in October.
“As we review program viability and enrolment trends, it is clear that programs with a low number of students are not sustainable to operate. When programs cannot be maintained, fewer staff are required to support them,” adds Heitman.
