EVERETT, WASH. — The Prince George Cougars gave up a pair of goals in the final 71 seconds of regulation en route to a 3-2 overtime loss to the Everett Silvertips on Friday (Dec. 19) night at Angel of the Winds Arena.

The Cougars led 2-0 late in the third period following goals by Corbin Vaughan at 1:10 of the second and Dmitri Yakutsenak at 17:10 of the third, but they collapsed and allowed the WHL-leading Silvertips to score three in a row including the overtime winner.

Cougars goaltender Alexander Levshyn was sensational as he stopped 51 of 54 shots in a losing effort.

The 19-year-old Ukrainian – who was named second star on the night – was finally beaten at 18:49 of the third period by Zackary Shantz who scored through heavy traffic to cut the deficit to 2–1.

Landon DuPont, the WHL’s reigning rookie of the year, tied things up at 2-2 when he jammed home a loose puck at 19:18 of the third. DuPont then completed the comeback when he scored the overtime winner at 2:47 of the extra frame.

Everett’s Raiden LeGall made 14 saves to pick up the win as the Cougars managed just 16 shots on net. The Tips improve to a WHL-best 27-3-2-1 record, and have 57 points from 33 games.

The 22-9-1-0 Cougars go into the WHL’s holiday break in second place in the Western Conference with 45 points from 32 games. They’re back in action next Saturday (Dec. 27) with the first of two games against the Victoria Royals at CN Centre.
