PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings went 0 for 8 on the power play Friday (Dec. 19) as they fell 4-3 to the Cowichan Valley Capitals at Kopar Memorial Arena.

The Spruce Kings outshot the BCHL’s leading team 41-26 but couldn’t find a way to victory, despite coming back from two goals down..

Prince George opened the scoring through Tai Ushio at 1:14 of the second period but the Capitals struck twice in a two minute span through Gavis Nemis and Anthony Hall later in the period.

Cowichan Valley added to their lead in the third when Carter Dekay scored at 4:20, but the Spruce Kings found a way back to tie the game at 3-3. Marcus Lougheed made it 3-2 with his 10th of the season before Dominic Szczygiel restored parity at 14:14.

Nemis had other ideas as he fired home his second of the game with less than three minutes to play to put the Capitals in the lead once again.

Cowichan’s Rhett Stosser picked up the win as he turned aside 38 of 41 shots as the Capitals improve to 23-6-1-0. Ryder Green picked up the loss in the Spruce Kings net as he stopped 22 of 26 shots.

The 15-11-1-0 Spruce Kings will hope for a better outcome at Kopar Memorial Arena when they rematch with the Capitals at 6:00 p.m. Saturday in the final BCHL game of 2025 for both teams.
