Making waves with one pool with extended hours keeps Prince George swimming

PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George residents will still have access to swimming during the Aquatic Centre’s two-year closure, as the city adjusts operations at the Canfor Leisure Pool. City officials say expanded hours and flexible programming are helping meet demand. 

As the Aquatic Centre undergoes significant renovations, the City of Prince George is now operating from its newest pool, which opened its doors in November 2022.

To better serve users, the Canfor Leisure Pool is now open every day of the week with extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. During public swim times, staff will ensure that at least two lanes are always available for swimmers.

Visitors will also notice some differences outside the pool, including changes to parking and facility access.

” We kind of encourage customers to park at the large parking lot adjacent to the pool. So, where the Civic Center lot is, pool customers will come in, and they can register their license plate number so they can park for free.”

Currently, IDL Projects is in the midst of renovation work at the Aquatic Centre, with the upgrades anticipated to take around two years to complete. Residents can keep up with progress by checking photos and videos on the city’s website. City officials emphasize that the aim is to ensure swimming remains accessible while the Aquatic Centre is being transformed for the future.
