TYH: New pharmacy prescribing service helps ease pressure on Walk-In Clinics
PRINCE GEORGE – Pharmacies are expanding their role beyond dispensing medications by introducing a service called Max, which focuses on managing minor health issues and providing contraception. Now, pharmacists can prescribe medications for specific conditions, but they must first conduct an assessment similar to that of a doctor to ensure safety and suitability. If any potential concerns arise during this process, patients are referred to a doctor for further investigation. Pharmacists can effectively treat everyday ailments such as uncomplicated bladder infections, cold sores, shingles, and short-term heartburn, thereby easing the burden on walk-in clinics. This service is designed for acute, short-term health concerns, while ongoing or chronic conditions still require the attention of a physician.
