PRINCE GEORGE — There was a high profile visitor to Prince George yesterday (Jan.6), as the city welcomed Federal Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree. He met with Downtown Prince George and the Prince George Chamber of Commerce to discuss ongoing struggles faced by businesses across the city

Anandasangaree did not make himself available to the media. but a joint press release from Downtown Prince George and the Chamber of Commerce says it welcomes the federal government’s introduction of Bill C-14, more commonly known as the bail reform act, to lower costs businesses face due to crime and vandalism.

The Press release adds both organizations are eager to continue supporting public safety efforts, noting downtown businesses faced more than $4.5 million in damages in 2025, so addressing repeat offenders and improving mental health supports is a key priority for the city.

The organizations says the meeting with Minister Anandasangaree was their latest effort to improve safety for employers, workers, and customers since they partnered in October to host the Voices For Change Safe Streets Rally at CN Centre. Last month, Downtown Prince George, the Chamber of Commerce and other local stakeholders met with Nina Krieger, B.C.’s Public Safety Minister.
