PRINCE GEORGE –

The Prince George Public Library has reached a major milestone in its campaign to transform an underutilized outdoor deck into a vibrant community gathering space. Thanks to a substantial donation from the Prince George Community Foundation, the library has met its fundraising goal and is ready to move forward with the ambitious renovation project.

The Prince George Public Library’s downtown branch is about to get a major facelift. The library has been raising funds for over a year to upgrade its expansive deck space, which currently sits unused because it doesn’t meet safety standards. The project received a major boost when the Prince George Community Foundation stepped up with a hundred-thousand-dollar donation, pushing the campaign over its goal.

“What made this project really special to the committee is it’s a sustainable project. It’s a legacy project. So it’s going to be here for a long time, and it’s really a community-building project.”

The foundation’s Vice-President says the gift aligns with their mission of supporting long-term community impact.

“It’s a place where events can happen, and other fundraisers can take place, and there will be children and families and seniors and people from every walk of life in our community who can be part of this community hub.”

Library Director Paul Burry says the community’s enthusiasm has been overwhelming.

“For the community foundation to come through with a hundred-thousand-dollar donation to get us all the way to the goal we had is so impressive. And we are just so pleased to have their support.”

Once the city completes engineering upgrades over the next year, the library will transform the deck into a multi-use space for reading, programs, and private events.

“The enthusiasm about having an outdoor space in the downtown where people can come free of charge and just relax and enjoy the space…the real gem that I think is driving the support in our community for this project.”

The Prince George Public Library’s deck renovation will create a free, accessible outdoor gathering space in the heart of downtown, serving the community for generations to come.
