Cougars make five deals prior to trade deadline

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars were busy prior to Thursday’s WHL trade deadline.

The deals included:

Swapping defenceman Eli Johnson (08) to the Penticton Vees in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round selection in the WHL Prospects draft.

The 17-year-old appeared in 24 games with Prince George this season, recording six assists. The Regina native was originally selected by the Cougars in the seventh round of the 2023 WHL Prospects draft.

The Cougars also acquired 17-year-old Koy Funk from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for a 2028 third-round pick.

The 6’2″, 194 pound forward from Portage La Prairie, MB was selected by Calgary in the second round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

In other deadline deal, the Cats acquired 20-year-old forward Dawson Seitz from the Wenatchee Wild in exchange for an eighth-round draft pick.

Seitz had 11 points in 22 games with the Wild this season and he notably was a member of the 2022 WHL Championship Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Cougars also picked up defenceman Tyrone Sobry from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a 2026 ninth-round draft pick.

The 19-year-old appeared in 29 games with the Blades this year, recoding seven points.

Finally, the Cougars acquired 2007-born defenceman Kaeson Fisher from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick in the draft.

The 18-year-old spent most of this season with the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, recording 25 points in 29 games.
