Spruce Kings beat Rivermen for first home win of 2026

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings never trailed in their first home game of 2026, as they knocked off the Langley Rivermen 6-4 at Kopar Memorial Arena Friday (Jan. 9) night.

Six different players scored for the Spruce Kings who led 3-0 after the first period and 5-4 after the second period on Indigenous Night. Prince George improved to 17-13-1-1 and leapfrogged the 17-15-0-0 Rivermen into second place in the BCHL’s Coastal East Division.

Marcus Lougheed, Dracen Campbell, and Evan Bellamy scored in the first period before the Rivermen pulled one back though Frédéric Deschênes ninety seconds into the second period.

Mason Loewen restored Prince George’s three goal lead less than a minute later, but the Rivermen scored the next two as Parker Forlin and Hunter Curtis struck 1:04 apart to make it 4-3 Spruce Kings at 5:21 of the second period.

Michael Denney on the power play and Christian Chouha then traded goals to wrap up a wild six goal second period.

There was no scoring until the final minute of the third period when Isaac Holt scored into the empty net. The Spruce Kings were shorthanded when goaltender Ryder Green kept the play alive before Holt spun and fired a shot down the ice to seal the win.

Colin Reay made nine saves on 12 shots in 25:21 of action before he made way for Green, who finished with 14 saves on 15 shots in 34:39 of relief work. Langley’s Maverick Avent made 36 saves on 41 shots to pick up the loss.

The Spruce Kings and Rivermen will rematch at Kopar Memorial Arena with puck drop scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 10) evening.
