Sunga sets TWolves assists record as UNBC basketball teams fall to UFV Saturday
PRINCE GEORGE — Justin Sunga wrote his name into the UNBC Timberwolves record book as the all-time Canada West men’s basketball assist leader.
The fourth-year point guard from Burnaby set the mark with his 269th career assist when he set up Tony Kibonge’s three-pointer in Saturday’s (Jan. 17) 81-71 loss to the Fraser Valley Cascades at the Northern Sports Centre.
Sunga has 273 career Canada West regular season assists to his name, five more than the previous record holder Vova Pluzhnikov, who finished with 268. Sunga trails the school’s overall record of 319 assists set by Inderbir Gill, during UNBC’s Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tenure.
Chris Ainsley led the way Saturday with a career high 23 points for the 2-12 TWolves, while Miller Davies (12) and Tony Kibonge (10) reached double digits as well. Sunga finished with nine assists on the night.
