PRINCE GEORGE – Last weekend the Prince George Cougars walked into a three game set in a tailspin having lost 7 in a row with the threat of dropping even further down the standings. Instead the team got to work and took all 3 games by a combined score of 15-9 while putting up 150 shots on goal and collecting two overtime wins. Head Coach Mark Lamb praised his squad for coming together during a rough stretch when others teams would have crumbled under the pressure and stresses the need to keep the momentum going as they return home to the CN Centre.

“In hockey when you’re on the road that first game back at home, you’re always a little worried about it. For whatever reason, nobody has the right reasons as to why sometimes you don’t play well your first game back home. For us it’s business as usual. We lost some ground in that losing streak and we’re looking to get it back.” said Cougars Head Coach Mark Lamb.

With multiple Cougars stepping up during the weekend it was arguably Jett Lajoie who was the catalyst as his hat-trick Friday night including the overtime winner against the rival Blazers helped the Cougars finally hit the win column for the first time in January.

“It was a good weekend for me. We practiced pretty hard and I just put my head down and grinded that game out. I’ll do anything for the boys. I just helped them out, they helped me out and now we just keep the momentum going for sure.” said Cougars forward Jett Lajoie.

Following last Sunday’s dominant performance against the Giants who sit 10th in the Western Conference coach Lamb expects them to come out hard having made adjustments and getting back personnel. Lamb added that overlooking Vancouver because of Sundays result or their record can be misleading as Vancouver’s goaltender Burke Hood is able keep his team in it and handle large shot counts.

“Every team can can give you fits. Every team has different areas that they can beat you on. When you just look back at the Vancouver game, their goalie is a guy that can stop 50-60 shots and get them a win. You always have to be aware of that.” said Lamb.

The 26-16-2 Cats look to keep building on their three game heater this weekend as they host the Vancouver Giants on Friday at 7pm for Fan Designed Jersey Night and Saturday at 6pm with both games at the CN Centre.

In other Cougars news forward Kayden Lemire will be joining defenseman Carson Carels and Head Coach Mark Lamb on Team West for the upcoming WHL Prospects game. 17-year-old Lemire is currently ranked 64th in the NHL Central Scouting’s Mid-Season Rankings and has 21 points in 44 games for the Cats. The WHL Prospects Game take place February 18th at the Langley Events Centre.
