PRINCE GEORGE — The B.C. government has appointed a new provincial court judge in Prince George.

According to the province, Charles Hutchinson brings 12 years of legal experience to the Prince George provincial court. Hutchinson’s appointment as judge takes effect on Feb. 5.

Hutchinson was called to the bar in 2013 and opened a private practice in Prince George focused on criminal defense, family law and child-protection matters. Since 2017, Hutchinson has also served as a local agent for Legal Aid BC in the Vanderhoof and Fort St. James area.

With Hutchinson’s appointment, Prince George has seven Provincial Court judges.

On Friday (Jan. 23), the province also appointed Jodi Michaels as a new judge in Dawson Creek effective Feb. 11, while Micah Rankin has been assigned to the judiciary in Victoria, effective Feb. 4.

“The appointments bring diverse, extensive legal experience to the Provincial Court, as well as a strong commitment to serving communities throughout British Columbia,” a statement from the Ministry of Attorney General said, noting there have been six judicial appointments since December.
